Update for OverDrive eBook App

In the ongoing process of improving user experience, OverDrive is releasing the latest updates for OverDrive Media Console’s mobile applications. While the overall process remains the same, the new updates will continue to streamline the applications’ usability. Users will now be able to return EPUB eBooks on all three mobile platforms and first time users will experience an improved Adobe Authorization process.
System requirements will remain the same and those with OverDrive Media Console already installed will be notified that an update is available. The updated app is available from the Android Market, App Store™, Blackberry AppWorld™, MobiHand™ App Store, or OverDrive.

What is library BIN? LibraryBIN is a digital bookstore offering a comprehensive selection of eBooks and digital audiobooks. What makes LibraryBIN unique is that the proceeds of every sale, after deducting the payment to the publisher for the wholesale cost of the title plus a hosting and fulfillment fee, go to support public libraries.

Simply visit the library's ebook site and select a title that interests you. If you want to simply borrow it, then add it to your digital book bag to check out. However, many of our titles now give you the option to purchase them with a link found above the Description. It will take you to the library BIN site and allow you to purchase the title and part of the proceeds goes into an ebooks fund for the library to use towards the purchase of new ebooks.

We have 16 computers available for public use. All of these computers have Microsoft Office 2007 on them and access to the internet.

The Starkville Public Library offers many resources and programs for the citizens of Starkville and Oktibbeha County Ms. Online resources include: Online Catalog, Ebooks, Ancestry.com, and Magnolia. The Online Catalog and Ebooks sites require you to have a library card with the Starkville-Oktibbeha County Library System and that your account has no fines or overdue materials.

The online catalog allows you to look at the collection in the SPL system as well as books at MSU, MUW, EMCC, and the Tombigbee Library System. Thru the online catalog, you can check your account and renew books as long as they aren't overdue or have other people waiting for them. You can also place holds on books.

Our Ebook collection has a variety of fiction and non-fiction titles as well as audio e-books. To read an ebook, you must have Adobe Digital Editions or MobiPocket Reader on your computer, PDA, or smart phone. To listen to an audio e-book, you must download OverDrive's Media Console and have Windows Media Player and iTunes on your computer. The audio e-books allow you to download all or part of a particular title and burn to a cd or transfer it to a MP3 player or smartphone for easier listening. All ebooks and audio e-books expire after 14 days. If a title is checked out, you can place a hold on it and will receive an email when it is returned. There is currently an OverDrive Media app available for iPhone, Android, and Blackberry that allows you to download directly to and read ePub books and listen to MP3 audio e-books on your phone.

Magnolia is a state-wide database offering provided by State of Ms. Legislature. To use Magnolia at home, click on the link found on our webpage and use the code MAGN1236 or MAGN1237. Once logged in, you have a wealth of information available to you at no charge and at anytime day or night. Some of the databases include: EbscoHost (full text magazine and journal articles), FirstSearch (allows you to search library catalogs all over the world), Credo Reference, and many others. Check it out!

The library also offers Ancestry.com for use in the library only. There is a wealth of genealogy information to be found at this site. Come visit Perian Kerr or Carolyn Reed in the Stark Annex of the Starkville Public Library and start the search into your ancestors.

Throughout the year, there are various programs sponsored by the library and Friends of the Library. Each month there is a Books and Authors program featuring guest speakers on a variety of topics. The FOL also host a booksale each month on the first Monday as well as a continuous $.50 collection of books available at anytime.

The library offers 2 StoryHours every Wednesday: 10am and 1:30pm. On Tuesdays at 4, the upper elementary age (4th - 6th grade) children have a book club. On Wednesdays and Thursdays at 4pm, the young adults get together to discuss books. During the summer, the library has its yearly Summer Reading Program for children and teens that lasts June and July.

If there is a book that you'd like to read and no one in our consortium has it, you can request that we purchase it or we can borrow it for you from another library. This service is free of charge, thanks to a grant from the Ms. Library Commission.

At tax time, the local AARP groups volunteers its time each week to help fill out tax forms and to answer any tax questions you might have. Contact the library for more information on this service.

The library recently purchased 53 new Ebook titles and 9 Audio Ebooks.
iPhone/iPad users keep a watch - Overdrive will be adding a new app that will allow you to download and read any of the EPub Ebook titles, with PDF files added soon after. You can currently use their Media app to download and listen to Audio Ebooks without syncing with a computer. Check the iTunes library and search for Overdrive. Search the catalog using iPhone/iPod

SirsiDynix has created an app for the iPhone/iPod called BookMyne. This allows users to search their local library, check their account, renew books, and place holds on items. To find the app, go to the iTunes App Store and search for Bookmyne. Once you are in the app, you can search for nearby libraries and add them to your library list. In order to check your account and place holds, you will need to login with your library card number and pin number.

Overdrive Media Center for smart phones

The Overdrive media console is now available for use on the iPhone/iPod/iPad. You can find the application in iTunes and download directly to your device. To download a book to your device, go the library's ebook site on your device - Ebooks, pick the audiobook that you'd like to check out, and once you've checked it out, the Media Console automatically opens and begins downloading the audiobook to your device. Media Console now supports, Android, Blackberry, iPhone/iPod/iPad, and Windows Mobile.

Announcing OverDrive Media Console for BlackBerry

New CD Format available at the library

Library's ebook site now mobile

The library's ebook site is now mobile. You can access the site thru your mobile phone and if your phone runs Windows Mobile 5 or higher, you can download ebooks and audio ebooks directly to your phone via the mobile version of the OverDrive Media Console. Android users can also use the beta version of the console to download to their phone as well.

OverDrive expands compatibility with WMA audio e-books

On Tuesday, June 16, OverDrive released the new version of OverDrive® Media Console. All new users will automatically download the latest version, and existing users will be prompted to upgrade to the latest and greatest version of OMC (scheduled for late June).

Visit the library's Ebook site to find and download ebooks or audiobooks. We now have MP3 audiobooks that can be downloaded to your iPod or iPhone as well as your PC or Mac or just about any handheld device. It requires you to have the Overdrive Media Console and iTunes to transfer the file from your computer to your MP3 player.

A Journal From Africa - a very special Lunch with Books

A retired nurse, a gardener and an avid quilter, Ellen and her husband, Walt, have traveled and photographed extensively in Africa. Each trip has focuased on a major interest - kayaking, snorkeling, viewing wildlife, interacting with local people and shopping for native crafts. PERSI enables you to search over 1.6 million genealogy and local history articles however, it is not a full-text service. If you want the full-text of an article, you must send off for it.
